June Update

DANNY UPDATE
It is with sad hearts that we inform you that Danny died a few days ago. In our last update we shared that the doctors were performing a procedure that would relieve discomfort by draining liquid from his liver. After that Danny was able to breath better and wasn't in as much pain. We were in communication with the hospital during that time. We were informed one morning that Danny and his mother left the hospital the evening before without notifying anyone. The report we got from a family member was that Danny knew he was going to die and didn't want to be in the hospital.

When Danny returned to Siargao Island his health quickly deteriorated. In a last desperate attempt his mother brought him back to the witchdoctor when he was having a hard time breathing. Danny died shortly after that.

As sad and as common as these situations are for us, it is much easier to handle when those ministered to have accepted Christ and are assured of their eternal place. Danny did receive the gift of eternal life! We are always thankful to God for the opportunity no matter what the outcome, to be a part of shedding His light, hope and love into lives that face unimaginable suffering and hardship. God has called us to care for the poor among us. Thank you for being a part of empowering us to do this through your prayer and support!

On a lighter note...

The 2009-2010 school year started today for our Hope for the Island Foundational Learning Center. We have a total of 34 students enrolled. Our teachers were excited to get back into class and had their hands full.

Keep them in prayer as they spend this week connecting with students, especially the new ones who are not used to being away from home. Many of the parents will need to help their children with the transition. Pray also for patience for our teachers. It is very challenging in the first month as they love and guide children who do not have structure or discipline at home and are most often malnourished
Many of you have asked us for a WISH LIST which we are including in this update
