It was a sad day seeing Mom board the airport taxi to leave for Canada this week. I have said it many times, but the only real sacrifice that we feel we make obeying God's call is that of being separated from family for such lengthy periods. We miss sharing in so many of life’s experiences with them. When God allows us to be together, those times are treasured in our hearts. The good byes get harder as the years go by.

Although Mom got involved in ministry and outreaches, she focused most of her time at Hope for the Island working through various administrative tasks with us. We were able to brainstorm, pray and plan for where we feel God is leading Hope for the Island. We anticipate with a fresh stirring of faith, all that God will do in our staff and ministries that will bring glory to His name. There is never a dull moment serving God and fulfilling His great commission.

Shannon (Harvest team), Mom and the Cebu, Philippines team all left the same day. Shannon will be missed by so many children that were touched by God through her. She exhibited tireless joy and energy as she spent time loving children who spend most days neglected. Shannon also spent three days a week training our students in the Art Program. They all responded well to her and were sad to see her go.

The Cebu team jumped right in and blessed the children and youth surrounding Hope for the Island. With our staff, they held a 4 day Vacation Bible School in Pacifico. This is an area we have been targeting and is now one of our regular scheduled ministry locations.

91 Children attended and 65 accepted Christ!!!

Follow up visits have taken place since the VBS and the local government has expressed that they are happy we are caring for these children.

Janrod is a 21 yr. old Filipino Canadian guy who has been serving alongside our staff for 12 days. As partners with Hope for the Island, his family felt it would be a great experience for Janrod to join us for a 12 day mission trip. Janrod blessed both the youth and our staff with his contagious and energetic spirit. With his love and gift of leading worship, the atmosphere at Hope for the Island came alive. We also appreciated his willingness to lend a helping hand at a moments notice.

We are operating on a summer schedule right now which has allowed us to take the time normally spent with students to connect as a body and have Hope for the Island staff devotions. We are all

enjoying this opportunity!!

WE ARE SEEKING GOD’S DIRECTION AND GUIDANCE AS WE PREPARE FOR

THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

On a different note, Hope for the Island must share some news that all friends and family need to be made aware of. As of May 11, 2009 Ben &Grace Cooney will no longer be operating under the covering of Hope for the Island. This is a decision they have made and we support them in it. They ministered alongside Hope for the Island as a couple since Nov 2005 and will remain close to our hearts. Please continue to keep them in prayer as they seek God's direction for their lives.
